Hearing about what others say about Valentine's Day can go both ways, either you love it or you hate it. There could be some reasons that make you want to hate it, which if that is your own personal opinion then that is OK, but maybe this article can help.
I grew up knowing Valentine's Day was the day of telling the ones you love, you love them and showing them in ways you don't every day. Whether it is a bouquet of flowers, jewelry or a fancy dinner, you probably did more than you usually did on any other day. In middle school, everyone got a card from their classmates, everyone special. As the years went on, Valentines were not always given out to everyone, only the ones you most care about. Valentine's Day in my house meant we all got flowers and cards from my dad and a small gift from my mom. I watched how much love can be spread by the little simple things. When did Valentines Day become so expensive though? Why is Valentine's meant to empty everyone's wallet? I understand that you want to show that person you care about how much you care, yet it shouldn't take all of your money.
I have only had one Valentine's Day with someone I was dating at the time. It was a great day, I liked getting dressed up and receiving candies and giving candies to him. It was a simple day of a lunch and just watching movies. For that relationship period, that day made me happy. I didn't need anything extravagant. It was perfect just the way it was. If your day consists of surprises, romance and gifts, enjoy it. No matter what, you are spending the day with your special someone.
On the other hand, I have spent every other Valentine's Day single as a pringle. I am thankful for when I was at home though because it was spent listening to how my parents met while eating a nice dinner. In high school, we could send roses to each other to be delivered during first period. It was nice to see who all got one, and the smiles they got on their faces. In college, it is nice to have a movie and wine night. Also, it is hard to go out when Valentines Day is in the middle of the week. So, if this is how you might spend Valentine's Day, enjoy it. Stay in your comfy clothes, eat whatever you want and have a night that will make you happy.
No matter how you spend this Valentine's Day, enjoy it. Know that you are loved by many. Live in the moment and create all the memories you can. Valentine's Day doesn't mean you have to be in a relationship or need to give fancy gifts. It is a day meant to be spent with people you love; your person, your family, your friends, and even yourself.
