I consider myself to be, in millennial speak, a low-key political junky, or someone who truly does enjoy following American Politics. This election, however, has been absolutely painful and not just because of the choices. I think that the entire world can agree that Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton are not the best choices for President of United States. Personally, I do not feel that either of them deserve the title “Leader of the Free World.” I certainly do not want my first official and legal vote to go to either candidate, but as a responsible American, I will have to cast a vote. Besides the candidates, there are many other aspects of this election that serve as annoyances that make me want it to be over as soon as possible. Here are the top reasons I cannot wait for the 2016 Presidential Election to be OVER!
Media Coverage:
For this election especially, there is no way to get bipartisan news that does not noticeably favor a specific party or candidate. Fox News leans to the right. CNN leans to the left. Is there a middle ground? Absolutely not. The media has always been this way, but each party so desperately hates the other’s candidate that coverage solely focuses on ripping apart the campaigns of each candidate. As an average American, there is no reputable source available in order to get information when trying to compare the candidates. Even the Debates have been seen to favor specific candidates through questions asked by moderators. So how can an American make a decision when the media only lets you know the things they want you to hear?
People:
I love that we as a nation are free to exercise our first amendment rights. The thing that makes America great is that we get to voice our opinions, but I am so tired of getting peoples beliefs thrown in my face constantly. When you log on to any social media platform, you are surely going to be greeted with someone spewing their political beliefs all over the internet. This is fine, but the issue with this election is that more so now than ever, this “spewing” is degrading the Americans that belong to each party. Americans are not only attacking the candidates, they are attacking each other. If your beliefs do not match those of another, you are automatically evil, crazy, uninformed and wrong. I hate having beliefs pushed onto me by others. It is one thing to inform and educate a voter, but it is so wrong to completely objectify someone based on their beliefs if they do not match your own. This happens a lot on college campuses, where students love to voice their opinions in unprofessional manners. Lets face it, if someone supports Trump, you are never going to persuade them to vote for Secretary Clinton, and vice versa, so why fight about it? The focus should be placed on looking at the platforms of each candidate!
Intensity:
This election is just too intense in the respect that it is literally ripping families and friends apart. There is just too much at stake, no matter what side you are on. The candidates are just so different and we are all being forced to get behind a candidate the we are not necessarily too fond of. It needs to be over because I'm sick of being judged based on who I’m voting for, and people getting annoyed when you don't share that highly personal information with them.
How many days until the election is over?
