Let's get this out of the way now: I want to see Donald Trump out of the office more than words can even say, for more reasons than I would be able to count on my fingers and toes.
I've spent every day of his administration contemplating how this country even got to the point where Donald Trump (a celebrity joke) became a viable option for President of The United States. I spent election night hunched over my computer both praying for a miracle to happen and in a panic attack about what could happen the next day.
Yet, here I stand, telling you that getting rid of Donald Trump will not solve the issue. Instead like a hydra, the government will spout an even more dangerous head in Mike Pence and the person who could become his Vice President.
Where Donald Trump is unprofessional and incompetent, Mike Pence is suave and cunning. The man should have been the governor of Indiana with a huge "I just want to be President" sign strapped to his chest because, to me at least, he never seemed satisfied just being governor - he always seemed to want more. And now, he's in the position to achieve that "more", as not only Vice President but halfway in the door as president, especially with recent events.
Mike Pence may seem like the obvious choice now because he has spent time actually working for the government and knows what it takes to be in a position of power like the presidency. He has connections in Congress, which would allow him to actually pass and reform bills that currently are at a standstill. He knows what he wants to do, and he will get it done as he has before and will probably attempt to do again, whether that be as president or not. He knows what is appropriate to say and when it is appropriate, unlike Donald Trump as demonstrated this week with the events in Charlottesville.
Mike Pence may seem like the obvious choice compared to Donald Trump, but as a citizen of Indiana, let me tell you he is not.
He passed the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act, which allowed businesses and business owners the right to turn away queer individuals based upon their sexuality alone. A law that basically allowed someone to take a quick look at another and determine if they fit the make and model of customer they wanted to serve.
Not only did Pence sign this bill into action, he couldn't even claim that discrimination was bad publicity, taking a much too long pause before stumbling over the words to do so. A revision would be made to Indiana's Religious Freedom and Restoration Act but the weight remained and the damage Pence had done was already set.
There have been so many times Mike Pence said he would do something but last minute would totally change his mind and do the exact opposite of what he said he would do. While it isn't anything new for politicians, I still don't think that's the man we want holding office. At least it's not the man I want in charge of the country.
So, as things continue to become even more strained between Donald Trump and the people of the United States, I have to ask myself one question:
Is impeaching Donald Trump worth the risk of having the 46th president of the United States be Mike Pence?
