As we have noticed in the past seasons, as soon as October hits, it starts getting cold. People begin to wear fall attire and indulge on pumpkin spice latte. However this year, things have taken a turn. It still feels like we are in the summer season where the sultry sun is heated up, causing us to wonder if colder weather will ever come. As a result of this phenomena, people are wondering if maybe global warming might be the case. Well it definitely is.

People only seem to know the surface of the topic of global warming. It is generally an increase in the earth’s surface temperature due to our constant and continuous use of the greenhouse thermal gases. It does not necessarily mean the greenhouse gases are bad, although in order for us to be alive, these gases needed for our survival. However, people do not consider the differences between wants and needs. Sure, some gases are necessary such as emitting carbon dioxide from our bodies but overly using things that require gases such as cars, can create a situation that we may not be able to reverse later on. It does not only affect the human population but animals as well, endangering and even making many of the animals extinct that we may come across today.

For instance, the rising of sea levels and melting of glaciers and ice sheets can create many problems within the atmosphere creating stronger hurricanes and tropical storms. We may not notice the effects around us now but the signs starting with warmer weather in a winter season should give everyone a sign that something may not be right.

People wonder what kind of solutions we may have to resolve global warming or at least slow down its effects. We are not able to completely put a stop to it due to its necessity however, people can reduce the amount of gases put into the atmosphere. If there are long term climatic resolutions people can collectively come up with, it will significantly slow down the effects. Another key thing that may be speeding it all up is tropical deforestation. It is 10% of the world's heat-trapping emissions, making the emissions of fossil fuels higher.

Just changing these two or reducing the usage by restraining from these actions may make an impact that will be better for our future generations. The more we turn away from all the solutions we can come up with for the good of the world, the more conflict we will end up facing in the future, trying to correct the wrongs. Why not start now and collectively make a change?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
