As we all know when applying to a new job you must meet all the requirements to be hired. Knowing that, the question of “is Donald Trump qualified to be president” keeps being asked in my mind. What qualifications must one have to run this country? Yes, he is a Natural Born Citizen and above the age of 35 but does he know the basic information needed to properly run the country? For example, he was completely unaware of Russia annexing Crimea. He also continuously calls out media outlets for publishing “fake news” and has been caught lying on many occasions (Thrush, Glenn).

According to Glenn Thrush, ex-writer for Politico, he is bad with facts, honesty, and “takes pride in being a D student who doesn’t read books, has the sketchiest sense of history, and doesn’t read briefing materials.” Do we really need a President who is uneducated and refuses to pay attention to his basic duties as the leader of this country and is he truly qualified for this position? Let’s look at these qualifications.

  • Proven character?
    • During the election, Donald Trump proved to have had a character unfit for office through his campaign. He mocked a handicapped man, made misogynistic remarks, tweeted insults, and made vulgar insults. A study done for The Atlantic by psychologists Steven J. Rubenzer and Thomas R. Faschingbauer, along with 120 historians and experts, showed that he had “sky-high extroversion combined with off-the-chart low agreeableness,” which is not expected of a U.S. President.
  • Political experience?
    • Political experience is something that Donald Trump majorly lacks. He chose his cabinet upon the basis of whether they supported him rather than their political knowledge.
  • Business background?
    • Business background is the one thing that Donald Trump does have immense knowledge of. Although he has this knowledge, six of his properties have gone bankrupt and instead of admitting to this he stated that “on occasion four times we used certain laws that are there.” On top of this he consistently lies about his success and has had many of his “side projects” fail. So, yes, Trump does have business background but is it the background that is necessary for being President?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
