OK, I’m going to be completely honest with you, I was never a huge Captain America fan growing up. Don’t get me wrong, I knew all about his enhanced strength, agility, and tactical skills, but it’s just that he never did anything for me. I think it’s because in my eyes he was always seen as a, well…goody two shoes. I know what you’re thinking, “He’s a superhero, he’s supposed to be that way.” I mean yeah, I guess so, but personally, I like a hero with a little bit more edge and character. For example, my favorite superhero is Spiderman. Even though he is a naturally good-hearted hero, when he fights the bad guys he’s not afraid to be a cocky smartass and talk crap to them. Another example: Wolverine. He has a good heart too (most of the time), but he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. I’m just not the kind of person to like a hero just because of the simple fact that they are labeled a “good guy.” But after seeing Captain America on the big screen, I might be changing my mind about him.
Alright, so I'm just going to say that I didn’t like the first Captain America movie because after a while it started to get boring to me. But "Captain America: Winter Soldier" was crazy! I never realized how much I liked Captain America until I saw him actually put in work with that shield. Watching his fight scenes, I never said “Holy sh*t” so many times in my life. Then when he was fighting the Winter Soldier (who turned out to be his best friend Bucky), that fight was so intense I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. But the best part about that movie was that Captain America was on the run from the government. When I think of Captain America from the comics, I think of the patriotic goody two shoes that does whatever S.H.I.E.L.D needs him to do. But in this movie, you see more of a badass side of Cap, because he actually goes rogue since half of S.H.I.E.L.D turned out to be corrupt. Not going to lie, that was pretty badass of him.
The other night I saw the trailer for the next Captain America movie coming out called “Captain America: Civil War,” and it looks f*cking insane. It follows the Marvel Civil War story arc from the comics where the government doesn’t feel safe around superheroes and wants them to register with them by revealing their identities. So it’s basically Captain America once again being a badass and going against the government by protecting his friend. What’s even crazier is that he has to fight Iron Man and the process to do it. When I say Captain America was kicking Iron Man’s ass in that trailer, trust me and believe I’m not exaggerating. Now, I’m not saying Captain America is becoming my new favorite hero, but if the movies keep portraying him like this he might end up being a badass in my book.
