15 Things That No Longer Matter Once You Start College

It doesn't matter whether you were the most popular kid. You're just one of the many students at your new school.

15 Things That No Longer Matter Once You Start College

Going from high school to college is one massive step. Too often, there are people who still try to relive their glory days from high school by bringing that with them to college. Let me tell you: You're not in high school anymore. This is college. This is a higher level. It's time to elevate your game and leave high school behind. Because high school is officially in the past.

Here are 15 things that no longer matter once you start college.

1. Your high school grade point average

If you were the valedictorian at your high school, good for you. It just doesn't guarantee that you'll get the same grades in college. It's called a learning curve for a reason. Also, your grades showed that you put in the required effort to get to college.

2. If you were the quarterback of the football team

Let's be real here, only so many people get to play college athletics.

3. Who your prom date was/if you were the prom king or queen

If you went to prom in high school, you probably had the time of your life at that time. But guess what, college will be better than your high school prom.

4. Your high school personality

You can choose to be that same kind of personality, or you can choose to explore who you think you can be.

5. If you were a nerd

The thing is, it's perfectly OK to be a nerd. In fact, you need to be one in college since that's why you pick a major.

6. Where you came from

The reason why this doesn't matter is because you belong at the university you go to, and you deserve to feel loved and appreciated regardless.

7. If you went to prom

Some people don't go to their high school prom (like me), and that's okay. I'm happy even though I didn't go.

8. How many people liked you or disliked you

Most of the people you went to high school with aren't following your steps to college. So let them go and move on with your life.

9. How much you like to party

The thing is, nobody really cares. You're at college to get an education.

10. The number of people you've had sex with

It's just a number.

11. If you were the best-looking girl at the school

You'll run into other beautiful girls at college, but you knew how beautiful you are before coming to college, so why does that have to change once you see another bombshell (or handful of bombshells) at college? Y'all are beautiful the way you are and don't need to put yourselves down when others call you beautiful.

12. The time it took for you to finish high school

High school is typically four years, but under certain circumstances, some people take shorter or longer. What really matters though, is that you are onto college and taking the next step of your life towards accomplishing your dreams.

13. Whether or not you had work experience before college

College is the opportunity to make your experience, so don't be afraid to make that happen. If you didn't have work experience before college, that's OK. You choose what to do with your time outside of classes.

14. What your religious beliefs were

You'll get to explore them during your college years.

15. What your political beliefs were

You're learning about who you are and what you stand for.

The thing is, nobody cares who you went to prom with because you're making new friends as part of your college experience. If you were prom queen or king, that doesn't matter. It doesn't guarantee that you'll be the queen or king of your college class. Nobody cares about what your political or religious beliefs were during high school because those are subject to change. Your past is worth opening up about, but you are at college for a reason, and you don't have to dwell on the past anymore because you've overcome a hurdle that many people never clear. You might be one of the bunch now, but you deserve to be loved and respected at your college and nobody can make you feel negative about yourself without your permission.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Mistakes are something we all make, no matter how old we get. Most of the time, the mistakes we made are little and sometimes due to something out of our control. Yet, there are mistakes that are bigger than others. Personally, I have mistakes that I wish I could go back and undo. Here they are:

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
