Flying can be terrifying. No matter how safe everyone says flying is, I cannot help but to think of every worst thing that can happen to me while I am up in the air. These feelings are amplified when I am not accompanied by an adult to calm me down and tell me how stupid these thoughts are. So, here are some of the most irrational thoughts I have and will continue to have when I fly alone.
- What if I get kidnapped on the way in? No one will even know, because there are hundreds of people here.
- Do I look suspicious? Will they think I am trying to bring something bad on the plane?
- Why am I smiling at everyone? Now I look really suspicious.
- Maybe I’ll sit next to a celebrity. That would make me feel better.
- Great, I am sitting alone, which means I will die alone here.
- Taking off is the worst.
- Yup, my body is going to get sucked out of this window and that’ll be it.
- Okay, the take off is over, now I can relax for a minute.
- Now my ears hurt.
- 10. What if my hear drum bursts all the way up here and everyone gets grossed out.
- 11. I hate the clouds.
- 12. The plane is shaking and we are going down.
- 13. Here we go, this is really it.
- 14. Look calm; don’t look like you’re freaking out.
- 15. Okay it’s smooth again.
- 16. That doesn’t mean we are in the clear though.
No matter what, I will be worried while I am in the air. We are not birds, which means we were not made to be that high up. While I do trust those who fly my planes, I will never let my guard down and will always be ready for that possible plummet. And no matter how old I get, I will always think these things because it’s just natural.
