Fashion to some is something trivial, or perhaps it is something glamorous and mysterious, confusing to the everyday person. Say what you want, but there's no doubt that fashion is imaginative, explorative and avant-garde.
Last year, forward-thinking designer Iris Van Herpen had an exhibition: Iris Van Herpen: Transforming Fashion that included a 3-D printed skeleton dress that was meant to evoke "the moment of free fall when the body feels as though it is growing in all directions" and a handmade dress made from PET, a material commonly used to make plastic bottles, with hot air guns and metal pliers from her Crystallization Collection.
Van Herpen says, "In all my work I try to make clear that fashion is an artistic expression, showing and wearing art, and not just a functional and devoid of content or commercial tool. With my work, I intend to show that fashion can certainly have an added value to the world..."
Luckily, I was able to get the chance to visit and witness her stunning designs and outfits. Below are some photographs I was able to take. Photos do no justice to her bold and breathtaking designs, but hopefully, they provide you with a glimpse.
