“I want to put a ding in the universe,” Steve Jobs, American entrepreneur and co-founder of Apple, used to say. Prior to his death in 2011, Jobs continuously put dings in the universe with his innovations in consumer electronics: iPods, laptops, Apple Stores, iTunes Store, MacBook Pros, and the list continues. Alongside the creations of these technologies, innovation lies within the features of each product.

Software updates improve the technology and fine-tune bug fixes in the previous operating system. However, there are many “hidden” and overlooked features of iOS 11 that could be beneficial to its owners. Below are a few of the unnoticed dings Jobs created since he founded Apple in 1976.

1. Discover What Your iPhone Knows About You

Without realizing it, our iPhones know exactly where we have been and how long we spent there. Designed to keep record of the places that are significant and improve traffic routing services, this feature is password protected and not accessible to anyone else. This feature recognizes to the minute how long you spent at the gym and how often you go to your favorite restaurant. However, if you are going somewhere you are not supposed to be, you might want to turn this feature off to remove your traces.

2. Easily Create More Storage

The dreaded “Storage Almost Full” notification is a bother to many iPhone users. No matter how many unused apps we delete or how many pictures and videos we remove from our camera rolls, it seems as if this notification never goes away. However, we often overlook the data within our text messages. By opening General in Settings and clicking on iPhone storage, we can easily delete the larger files in our text messages without even going into the Messages application. This will ensure the “Storage Almost Full” notification to not pop up as frequently.

3. Set Your Music On A Timer

For those of you who like to fall asleep with music on, the hidden “Stop Playing” feature in the Clock application provides a way for you to set your music or audiobook on a timer to shut off. In my opinion, this feature should be placed in the music application, as it would be easier to find for users. However, this feature could definitely be used to one's advantage if he/she does not want music or an audiobook playing overnight. It only works when listening to something franchised by Apple; for example, this does not work for Spotify or YouTube.

4. Take a Screenshot Video

The customizable Control Center contains a feature named “Screen Recording.” This allows users to demonstrate a process, record yourself playing a game, and even to scroll through your messages instead of individually screenshotting each message. However, be careful; Snapchat is aware of this feature and notifies people if you are using this to open a Snapchat.

5. Announce Calls

The “Announce Calls” feature in Settings under Phone gives users the option to have Siri announce the name or number of the caller when the phone is in Ring mode. This feature can be set to Always, Headphone & Car, Headphone Only, or Never. Now, instead of wondering who is calling when you hear your phone ringing across the room, when enabled, this feature provides you with the information needed decide if you need to sprint across the room.

Although Steve Jobs is not still with us today, Apple keeps putting "dings" in our universe with the features in our technology. He has clearly left his mark within the consumer electronics world, and Apple's innovations will continue to be recognized worldwide.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.
