Are you an avid Apple user? If so, you've probably heard news about the newest Apple product release: the iPhone 7. According to Apple, this is supposed to be the next big thing in the technology/smartphone world. But is it really all it's cracked up to be? There are definitely some pros and cons.
1. Design
The iPhone 7 has a "new" design, that's supposed to be much better than the previous models. There are new black and jet black finishes. But in my opinion, is color really a big deal? I always have a case on my iPhone, for fear of breaking it or getting it dirty. Which brings me to my next point about the design: the iPhone 7 is said to be splash and water resistant. There are many phones that have that capability, but if submerged in water for more than a few minutes, the probability of it completely ruining the phone is greater.
The iPhone 7 is also said to have a brand new Home button. According to Apple, the Home button on the iPhone 7 is designed to be durable, responsive, and pressure sensitive. Working in tandem with the new Taptic Engine, it gives precise tactile feedback as you press. And it's even customizable. This may be an improvement from older models of the iPhone, because a lot of people have broken their home buttons and have had to replace the phone entirely.
2. Camera
iPhones are notorious for having a good camera. The iPhone 7 is no different! However, the iPhone 6s and 6s+ has a 12 MP camera which is the same as an iPhone 7. So there really isn't any difference between the two. But according to the iPhone 7 description, the camera has optical image stabilization, 7 MP FaceTime HD camera and a Quad LED flash... if any of that appeals to you.
3. Display
The display of the iPhone 7 is said to be the best yet. The Retina HD display has a wide color gamut, 25% brighter and 3D Touch.
4. Longer battery life
This is a pretty big deal. I have heard that the battery life in the iPhone 7 is longer than any iPhone model released before. With the A10 fusion chip, this year you'll get more time between charges than ever before. Take advantage of up to two more hours on iPhone 7 and up to one more hour in the iPhone 7 Plus.
5. Audio/Headphones
The iPhone 7 has a new stereo speaker system. According to Apple, the speaker is 2x as loud as the iPhone 6s.
A lot of people have made a fuss about the headphone jack being removed from the iPhone 7. This is one of the main reasons I decided against upgrading. Yes, there are Bluetooth headphones that are available for purchase, but at what cost? EarPods are a new invention from Apple, that come with the iPhone 7 upon purchase. These EarPods are plugged into the charging port via a lightning connector. An issue I have with this, what if you want to charge your phone and listen to music at the same time? What if you want to plug in your auxiliary cord in your car to listen to music? You can't do that without spending big money for an adapter, which is unnecessary.
Apple has also come out with AirPods, wireless headphones that go in your ears. According to Apple, you can take them out and automatically connect with all of your Apple devices. Speak into them and your voice sounds clear. These are not available until late October. In my opinion, with these tiny little ear pieces, I would lose them within days of having them. Not worth it.
As you can see, there are plenty of pros and cons of the iPhone 7. I feel as though there are many other things that Apple could have done to improve the iPhone. This appears to be the "next big thing" so I'd like to see how it turns out.
