More expensive shoes, more funny six-second videos, more As on our report card - in the modern world of today, our brains are rapidly losing their attention spans due to the onslaught of relentless information streaming through our phones. We scroll through beautiful picture after picture on Instagram. We refresh our email inbox every ten seconds, waiting for an important reply.
In all of this, we have forgotten how to think inwards. What do we want outside of the tiny walls of our phones? Beyond the validation of online acquaintances and the instant gratification of accessing information with one Google search, what inspires us to create?
It's easy to scorn previous generations who disparage the brand new technology that has changed what it means to be alive. However, this technology is as capable of harming us as it is of helping us. We must learn how to disconnect ourselves from our online personas.
It is time to learn who we are. It is time to take the time to introspect each day.
