There's more to going to church than just showing up. When I go involved more with my church, I grew in ways I never knew I could.

1. I go to church for more than the message.

Most people go to church just to hear the message. I go because I know that I am essential to the process just like every other ministry member. I personally feel a connection with my church as a result of being involved in different ministries. You start to see the necessity of ministries for a church's success.

2. There's gratification in helping others.

As an active ministry member, you can see how much of a difference you make in other's lives. Having ministries that get involved is essential for a church to succeed. We are the hands and feet of God in our community.

3. I'm more patient.

I get a sense of peace from being active at church. I know I am a child of God and he is always on my side. In stressful situations I don't fret because I know my savior will gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.

4. My family is involved too.

My mom, sister and I have all joined ministries at church over the past year. We collectively serve with the children's' church, media team, hospitality and ushers. Being involved at church has made us closer as a family.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
