Every now and then, you might find yourself longing for something you know you shouldn't indulge in. Whether it be a boy, a pint of ice cream, or spending your last cent on a cute outfit knowing damn well you're a broke college student.
Although it's completely normal to have temptations, it's important to realize that the more you go back to these things, the harder it will be to stop them in the future. A simple way refrain from bad temptations is to invest your time into new hobbies such as: reading, writing, dancing, etc, anything that you enjoy most or something new you want to try. Investing your time into something else will not only keep you busy but help distract you from the things that can potentially be toxic in your life.
I know it's easier said than done, but a simple trip to Barnes and Noble to find a book that really suits you can make the idea of reading fun again. Never in a million years would I have thought that I would pick up a book out of pure entertainment, but it's something about the feeling of putting my phone down and ditching all of the chaos that's going on in the world around me that makes me feel super content and accomplished.
I'm not saying the key to solving all of your temptations is to pick up a book but to simply search for something that you are genuinely interested in and stick with it. These distractions can help you grow as a person and make you realize that these temptations that once made you feel guilty, regretful or pathetic can turn into something that makes you forget why you were tempted in the first place. So, ditch whatever temptations you're struggling with and explore different ways in keeping yourself satisfied.
