Invest in Live Music

Lose yourself in the euphoria.

Invest in Live Music
Giselle Langley

Life doesn't always go your way. Everyone has problems, admittedly or not. Not everyone will agree with your perspectives or views on every matter that is important to you. Despite it all, live music still manages to bring us together and unite us all despite different backgrounds, world views, problems, opinions, races and ethnicities, and origins. It provides a safe space for us to slowly dissipate into a wholly new entity acting and bonding as one; allowing us to forget our problems and fully live in the moment with no concern of what is going on in the outside world.

The anticipation of whether or not your favorite song is going to be played, the excitement when your favorite bands play the first chord of the night, the surrealness of looking around at an entire venue simultaneously singing the words of the same song as you-this passion for music brings us together; it allows us to truly live in the moment and recognize that we are not alone.

The second you walk into a concert venue, the energy in the room is practically tangible. It reminds you that everyone is there for the same reason and shares your same passion in a performer, and it’s such a riveting and inspiring experience. It doesn't matter what political preference you are or how old you are because concerts are purely about people coming together for the love of music, and that is such a beautiful sentiment. You get to leave the chaos of the outside world behind and frantically sing your hearts out to songs that have gotten you through your best and worst times.

I have personally worked a concert venue, and avidly attended numerous concerts after my passion in music was sparked during high school because I cannot get enough of them. The concert environment is just so intoxicating where you really can't get enough since live music can really put you at such a natural high; and in my opinion, concerts brings so much more happiness than material things you can purchase. I have become completely content with standing in the middle of a room squished to death by hundreds of other people and sweating like no other because the shared euphoria and raw emotions of everyone around you make the experience of listening to music so much more meaningful and exciting than just listening to it online or on your phone. The sore throat, ringing in your ears, and physical soreness you feel post-concert are all somehow worth it and manage to emphasize the success of the night because you have truly let go and lost yourself in the music.

On top of it all, you get to discover new music and new artists that you wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't gone to concerts in the first place. Many people disregard opening acts that they have never heard of before, but often if you are willing to listen, you can find something you may truly love.

So, go to as many concerts as you can. Invest in the experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. You will not regret it.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

494
Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
