If you could read my mind, you'd be surprised how quiet I am.

An Open Letter About Introversion, Extraversion And Ambiversion

Everyone is really different when it comes to personality (hence the graph at the top). You can be introverted, extroverted, or right in the middle, which is known as "ambiverted." Personality plays a huge role in human nature as it shapes our experiences and is the deciding factor in how we act towards the social stimulus.

A misleading stereotype is that all introverts are shut-ins. That's not entirely true, we do enjoy interaction, but in limited doses. For example at a party, an extrovert may gain more energy from social interaction as they spend more and more time there. On the other hand, an introvert will engage in social interaction but will become more tired the more they engage. That's not to say that extroverts don't get tired being at a social event, just that the source of fatigue for introverts is different. Additionally from what I've experienced, and others can back me up on this, small talk is horrible. Arguably, small talk drains us faster than an in-depth conversation. I'd much rather have a short, deep conversation than making small talk for hours. Another thing, the more people you add to the conversation, the quieter we'll tend to be.

As Stephen Hawking once said, "Quiet people have the loudest minds," which is funny because we don't really talk a lot, but it's an entirely true statement because we think a lot. Sometimes the noise in our minds can be deafening, but by secluding ourselves in thought we can become more self-aware and be more focused.

There's nothing wrong with being introverted. Introversion and extraversion are just two different personalities that people can have and it doesn't mean that anyone is better than the other. It's just nice to be able to understand different people's perspectives on things, especially social stimulus.

Introversion and extraversion are just one part of the four (or five) parts that make up your whole personality. Curious about what your personality may be? I recommend taking the personality test by 16personalities to get to know yourself on a deeper level.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
