Let Me Introduce Myself

Here is where I get to be real, no more hiding for me.

My name is James Sayen and I am just starting to openly write articles for Odyssey. I am grateful for this opportunity because I have never had the opportunity to share my opinions and beliefs like this before. The specific topics I would like to present are mostly related to different sciences -- theology, astronomy, marine biology, and physics.

For starters, a little background on me, I am a musician. I have written music for various different musical settings for almost five years and have been playing trumpet for about nine years. I have a page on Facebook where I post music that I have completed. Feel free to check out my music page here. I have several Arias for different solo instruments, a concerto for two trumpets, a couple pieces for band, around ten completed works for orchestras, and even a symphony that spans for a little over a half an hour.

In terms of beliefs, I am an atheist that is very interested in theology and trying to develop a deeper understanding as to why every religion believes what they believe. My main goal in doing so however is to try to understand why people either fully believe what they believe in or ignorantly choose to believe what they do because they were told to do so by family, or relatives.

My biggest interests are in the field of astronomy however; I absolutely love researching the life cycle of the universe as well as various other aspects that occur in the universe we all live in; aspects such as black holes, neutron stars, and the fermi paradox. The fermi paradox asks the question of where life is in our universe despite having so many chances for hospitable planets throughout the universe. No one has a definitive answer however, but Scientists such as Bill Nye believe it’s just a matter of the fact that we haven’t been listening long enough to find any sort of extraterrestrial life. We have only developed the kind of communication we currently have within the last generation and telephones were only being invented in the late 1800s.

I look forward to being able to be able to talk about these topics and more in future articles and in much more detail.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
