On modern day Facebook and social media, many college students post and share numerous different articles, many from a website referred to as "The Odyssey Online." These articles appeal to college students from around the world. After reading dozens of different Odyssey articles, whether they were from close friends, acquaintances, or individuals around the country, many of these articles stick out to me.
Somehow, I log onto Facebook every day and find another Odyssey article that I relate to. Whether it is about college, relationships, or work, people really do know how to express exact feelings through an online article. The best part about it is seeing different articles from various individuals around the country. Personally, I think it is amazing to see how complete strangers can take the words right out of your thoughts and post it as catchy and humorous or serious and passionate articles.
By reading Odyssey articles, I have gained perspectives of various groups of people that I could not see from my own views. By keeping an open mind while reading an article that you have completely different views upon, you will learn an extraordinary perspective that you once may not have known about. Overall, Odyssey has helped me become more knowledgeable.
As a fan of Odyssey, I am ecstatic to become a part of this community. I was always the kid in high school who would rather write a 10 page essay than take an exam. I always seemed to do better on essay portions of exams, SATs, and English essays especially. I come from a high school with an incredibly strong English department, so I have learned to express my thoughts, feelings, and knowledge through sophisticated vocabulary and sentence structure. Weirdly, because of this, I have taken a secret passion of writing that most do not know about, and I am sure that my high school English teachers would be thrilled to hear that.
This past year, I had an English professor that left me with words of encouragement for college and the rest of my life. I approach him after the final to shake his hand, and he says, "You're sharp. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." These few words mean more than I can explain, and this professor is one of the reasons why I am writing this today.
As a writer of Odyssey, I hope to enrich not only my friends but people from around the world on particular subjects that I am passionate about. I was not exactly sure if I wanted to commit to this, but after bits of encouragement from a close friend, I knew this was for me. Like I said before, there have been many cases in which I was enriched, so now, it is my turn.
