Interview With The UCSD Water Polo Team

Interview With The UCSD Water Polo Team

This week I had the pleasure of sitting down with a few of my friends on our school’s illustrious water polo squad. I interviewed my Pike brother, Andy Moore; Joe Dietrich, with SAE; and Chase Cockerill, with EX.

So what is your favorite part of being a part of the polo team?

Andy: It has to be playing in the home opener with all the fans. Performing with the whole school watching is exciting.

Chase: The speedo tan.

Joe: all the big games with the big crowds.

Why did you choose UCSD over other schools to play at?

Andy: I really like the academics and already knew people who played here.

Joe: I could immediately contribute here instead of red shirting [means you only play in practice not the actual games] at other schools.

Chase: I had a lot of fun at my recruiting trip here.

What was the recruiting trip and process like?

Joe: You come in and you have to try out and play against the team and other recruits. After that they took us to the beach, tours of campus, and had a really sweet BBQ with all the guys.

What is it like to be both an athlete and a Greek?

Joe: It's nice to be involved in both communities. You get to know more people and have more fun.

Chase: It's like one big family and it's really awesome to represent your fraternity at the games.

Andy: It's great having another group of friends that have different interests than the polo guys, so I always have people to do the stuff I want to do with'

On a less serious note, what are the pros and cons of wearing a speedo constantly?

Chase: The tan is a huge pro.

Andy: That upper leg tan drives the ladies crazy. You will also never feel uncomfortable in any kind of costume.

Joe: They do get a little cold though, but that tan can’t be beat.

A lot of people talk about how attractive you guys are on Yik Yak, how do you guys feel about that?

Andy: Well, it's good to know that our fans love us.

Joe: It's never a bad thing to be associated with good looks

Chase: What is Yik Yak?

Do you guys have any good stories about traveling and playing at other schools?

Andy: Going to the Air Force vs. Navy football game when we played there this year was pretty sweet.

Chase: Flying southwest after championships was really awesome.

Joe: We went to Hawaii this summer and had a lot of fun.

What kinds of stuff do you do in your free time?

Andy: We like to attack each other when we're taking naps. That's pretty fun. We're also good cooks. My personal favorite thing to do is go hot tubbing and tan in the front yard.

Joe: A lot of FIFA. We get serious about it, so if you're down by five, you have to call your mom before you can continue playing. It's a good time.

Chase: I surf a lot and am in a scooter gang.

What is your  taste in music?

Unanimous: Country! We love that and our girl Taylor Swift.

Andy: I'm into Lana Del Rey, too.

Do you guys have any more games coming up that the student body should know about?

Andy: Hopefully, we will have a game on Nov. 29.

Joe: It's going to be at home, too, so it would be awesome to get a huge showing.

Come out to their game next Saturday, Nov. 29 at Canyonview pool to tailgate, meet the players, and cheer them on to victory! Go, Tritons, and go water polo!

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.

15 Things That Happen On Your Birthday

Do you have a small get-together or throw a big bash?

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.
