An Interview With Singer/Songwriter Amanda Jones
Milan Cook

In case you haven't heard of this young, beautiful, and talented pop singer/ songwriter, her name is Amanda Jones. Amanda Jones is a 21-year-old pop singer from Portland, Oregon. Amanda's debut EP was produced with some members of Boys Like Girls, and Amanda has opened up for bands such as R5 and Cimorelli. Amanda's new music video for "Brand New Day" was released on August 19, 2016, you can check it out below! I would like to thank Amanda for giving me this opportunity to interview her, she's one of the kindest artists I've talked to.

KC: When did you realize you wanted to be a performer?

AJ: In 1st grade I really knew that this was something I loved, but middle school is when I began to take it seriously

KC: Who are some of your inspirations?

AJ: Carly Rae Jepsen, Tori Kelly, Parachute, Nick Jonas and The Maine.

KC: What was your first "big" performance? Can you recall your feelings leading up to it, during it, and after it?

AJ: My first big show was opening for R5 feat. Ross Lynch of Disney Channel’s “Austin and Ally”! I remember getting an email 1 week before the show asking me to open, and I was SO stoked. Leading up to the show everything that could go wrong, went wrong. Some wooden rod fell on my face and gave me a black eye, I was recovering from pneumonia AND the morning of the show I woke up with like 10 cold sores. Looking back I think that everything that happened is just my luck/ hilarious and funny to look back on! The performance went awesome- super high energy, and the crowd was great. I’m very thankful that was my first show and had a blast.

KC: Where do you want to see yourself in a year, career wise?

AJ: I really want to be living in LA, collaborating with other artists and signed with a label. Creating music is something I’m very passionate about, and I hope to be given a wider platform to share my work through.

KC: What do you hope to accomplish in the next five years?

AJ: I would love to release a full length album through a label, and tour a lot! My goal is to become a really strong songwriter/ artist and release a lot of quality music.

KC: If you could write a song with any artist living, or dead, who would it be and why?

AJ: My dream is to collaborate with Nick Jonas. I think i’ve had that listed on my wall as a goal for the last 10 years. He’s an incredible songwriter and producer, and I think we could create something really amazing together.

KC: If you could be featured on a song with any artist living, or dead, who would it be and why?

AJ: Again, I’m gonna have to say Nick Jonas. My 12 year old Jonas Brothers fangirl-self would die.

KC: Do you have any upcoming tours in the works?

AJ: I don’t have anything confirmed yet, but I’m hoping to hit the road early next year!

KC: What does your family and friends think about all your success so far?

AJ: They are all so supportive of me! Most of my friends are involved in the music industry, so it’s fun to watch each other grow and progress with our own music projects.

KC: Finally, do you have any advice for aspiring singer/song writers?

AJ: Take advantage of social media to get yourself out there! I can 100% say I would not be where I am today without the power of Twitter. It’s a great way to connect with your fanbase, share your music, and be a friend to those supporting you.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
