An Interview With Jordan: The Nurse, The Stove, And My Sister

In This Article:

Between our busy schedules, my sister Jordan and I don't get to see each other as much as we'd like to! That's why I decided to interview my sister this week!

I was excited to interview her because, even though we're siblings and grew up in the same home, we're two different people and thus see the world differently. It's amazing the amount of stuff you can learn about the people you grew up with!

Without further adieu, meet Jordan!

Tell me about your childhood! Where were you born? What was your childhood like? Favorite childhood memories?

Where was I born? In a hospital room. Duh.

My childhood was full of laughter and love. There were many obstacles that got thrown my way but it's made me who I am today.

One of my favorite childhood memories is when I would crawl up on my dad's lap and be rocked to sleep. However, tormenting you [Elyssa] was always my goal at the end of the day.

Ah yes. Tell me, what is your favorite "I tormented my sister" story?

My favorite story is when we were younger and you climbed up a tree and I removed the ladder from underneath you. You had to sit up in the tree for hours until Dad realized that you were up there while I knew the whole entire time that you were stuck.

Oh goodness. Yes, I remember that. Ha! OK, so you've just graduated community college. What are your plans now?

After graduating from Cowley, I plan to pursue my journey towards nursing. I'm waiting to hear back from a couple of different nursing programs at the moment.

What made you want to go into nursing? What do you look forward to most as a nurse?

Growing up in the medical field and watching dad work as a paramedic/firefighter, I always knew I wanted to be in the same type of field. I look forward to being able to take care of people and bring them back to health.

What's the hardest challenge you've faced and how has it shaped you?

The hardest challenge that I have ever faced was growing up without my mom active in my life. It has shaped me many different ways. But I am thankful for the lessons it has taught me.

What values are most important to you?

The most important values that I have are honesty and loyalty. Without either of those, it is hard to trust a person.

And what keeps you busy? Hobbies/activities?

Work and school keep me pretty busy. When I am not doing either of those, I enjoy playing softball and spending quality time with my family.

Final question: if you were a kitchen appliance, what would you be and why?

If I were a kitchen appliance, I would want to be a stove. I am able to do many things and others would rely on me.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
