An Interview With Taylor Carroll

So Close... Too perfect!

Well hello Mr. Taylor Carroll. Taylor is a musician who has been working his way through this fastrack industry for some time now, however with the new release of his latest album, "So Close," his recent portrayal of Billy Idol on ABC's "Wicked City," and his very exciting invitation to this year's American Music Awards, I think it's safe to say success is no longer nearby, but rather already arriving. Taylor has grown up in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee. He got his first big break when he was offered the role of drummer with the rock group Pillar, where he went on tour with the band.

He currently lives in Los Angeles, California, where he is fighting his way through this lustrous career, and finding himself breaking ground. I was fortunate enough to get a one-on-one interview with Taylor last Friday night via FaceTime, and was simply amazed at what a true class act Taylor is, not to mention he's funny as well! No wonder he's perfect for his career choice, he doesn't just appear to be the whole package, he actually is!

I asked Taylor what he felt the first defining moment in his career was, and he said being called to be the drummer for Pillar was definitely a feel good moment. The 28 year old actor and musician is more than just what first meets the eye. He was polite enough to make sure he held true to his word of speaking with me, and stepped outside of his mother's 60th birthday party to do so. When his mother walked out to check on him, he proudly put his arm around her, and introduced his beautiful mother (you could see the 'pretty' gene runs in the family) and she was just as friendly as her son. It was obvious that Taylor prides himself on knowing how important family is. He was warm in conversation, and personality, making me feel like I knew him for some time now, and that this was just another random conversation we were having on any given Friday night like always. His southern roots emerge in his wholesome qualities, which become visible just after a few short moments. In fact when I asked Taylor if growing up in the south affected him at all now that he lives in L.A., he responded, "I feel it has made me a gentleman." I can assure you that just from a 20-minute interview, I would agree. His humble Southern hospitality is still very much a surviving trait in Taylor, so down to earth that when he got the call that he was invited to attend the AMA's his response was "cool, can I wear sweats?" The all important question was asked, and answered next:

Me: "Taylor are you single?

Taylor: "Yes."

I asked what he looked for in a girl and he said his favorite quality in a girl was someone who owned her femininity, someone who "was just a girly girl."

The only flaw I found in speaking with Taylor was that he is a Memphis Tigers fan... ugh! I guess you can't win them all right?

So, you might be wondering what Taylor will be up to next?... Make sure to follow him on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to find out, and to stay up to date on each new great endeavor, as I am sure they are all bound to be a success!

Taylor Carroll, So Close... to perfect that is!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
