Internet Revolutionizes Dating

6

The year is now 2014 and with the years just flying on by, you’d think we’d have time machines, by now, and food instantly appearing with a snap of our fingers.      Although that has not been invented yet, technology and the whole social media world has rapidly advanced over the past several years.

It has evolved from big dinosaur computers to super thin computers that can do multiple things at once. With technology so advanced, the world of dating has been revolutionized.

When Internet dating first appeared, people were perplexed and little apprehensive at meeting a future partner over the internet and not in person. After it grew with popularity and success, a plethora of people decided to join the online dating community and, soon, several websites were created for these purposes.

Now, a new era of Internet dating has erupted and it is through cell phone apps such as Tinder, Hot or Not and Sway. These apps have helped re-invent the Internet dating world and have made it even more popular for the younger generation.

Tinder is a much talked about and very popular app Like everything else in life, it comes with pros and cons. Tinder allows you to “like” and “dislike” others with the discretion of the other person not knowing your choice, unless it has become a match that you both like each other. From there, you can make conversation and see where it goes. A con to this app is there can be creeps and guys who use lame pick up lines. But who knows, maybe you’ll be the lucky one to find true love with Tinder.

Sway is another popular dating app that has been called the Instagram of dating because it allows the user to create a profile and date card with characteristics similar to Instagram. Once you create your profile, other users can “yes” or “no” you based on your profile. After you have received a match, you can proceed to talk to that person and see if sparks fly. I recently heard about this app and, being the curious person I am, I downloaded it thinking it would be just like Tinder. It’s not. Sawy has it’s own unique style and I like it better than Tinder, in that sense.

Hot or Not is a dating app similar to Tinder and Sway. It allows you to connect to your Facebook and will take all the information and sync it to your Sway profile. Once you have found matches, you can message them and let the fun begin.

These are just a few of the many new dating apps. Most are pretty similar, so feel free to try them all to figure out which one you like best for finding your perfect match.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
