Heading the beginning of first month of the New Year is the new president of the united states Donald Trump. What is to become of the U.S nation I know not. This though is not the only event that deems worthy of national attention. The Extradition of Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera. The head of the notorious worldwide drug organization known as the Sinaloa cartel. For those who don’t know who the Sinaloa cartel is here is a little bit of information you might find intriguing. The Sinaloa cartel has been operating in the U.S since the mid 1980’s, and is also responsible for importing tons of cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin into the U.S. The Sinaloa cartel has imported most of the narcotics into this country. Along with other willing participants from countries such as Columbia, Bolivia, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Peru, and Nicaragua. These countries house the powers that seek to distribute narcotics on a global scale, but are not single handedly responsible for the destruction caused by the drug trade. The fact of the matter is that countries such as the U.S and China are also responsible for the worldwide drug epidemic. Seeing as how the chemical concoctions of the past flood the street along with the new. The U.S government also bears responsibility to some extent. Working along with cartel on levels that leave them surprisingly undetectable. Especially to the powers of our own intelligence agencies. This I find to be not much of a surprise. The U.S government has always been behind the scenes operating on a level that is not worthy of our clearance status as citizens. Gary Webb though is a hero on this forefront of exposure. He paid with his life for the truth to be heard. Enough finger pointing now. The fact of the matter is the head of the one of the world’s largest drug organizations has been extradited into the U.S, and now I wonder what is in store for the world. Leaving another question to be answered. Who will replace the powers that be? Also as a country what steps will be taken to insure that the national drug traffickers such as Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera will not be allowed to operate within our country unpunished. For the destruction caused by the massive amounts of narcotics allowed into the U.S has left our nation crippled, and in despair. It is my hope that these National Drug Elitists be punished for the scourge that stains our great nation: This stain being the absence of their humanity.

For it is we the people who suffer in the end.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
