The words Mes Que Un Club can be spotted at Camp Nou. Recently, FC Barcelona broke records this season by having the longest-running undefeated streak by 39 games in all championships, thus making Spanish Football history. Unfortunately, they were halted on April 2nd by their arch rivals, Real Madrid, in El Clasico. Regardless of that fact, Barcelona is still at the top of the table of Liga BBVA and also progressing in the UEFA Champions League. But let’s take a look past the football and look at some legacies and lives marked by the presence of the football giant, FC Barcelona.
1. Political representation.
FC Barcelona’s intense rivalry with Real Madrid was no coincidence. Politics sits right at the center of the two teams, as Barcelona represents Catalonia’s autonomy from the capital of Spain.
2. Current coach Luis Enrique.
Luis Enrique played for Barcelona, but for five years before his entrance into Camp Nou he played 241 games with Real Madrid.
3. La Masia.
Barcelona has its own youth academy from which star players, such as Carles Puyol and Andres Iniesta, have graduated. The current and famed coach of German football club Bayern Munich, Pep Guardiola and even Leo Messi, all graduated from La Masia. La Masia kids even take part in a mini "El Clasico" game of their own, and recently youth player Toni Caravaca made headlines with his free kick and dribbling skills. You can only be amazed at what the future of football looks like.
4. The story behind the number 10.
Before number 10 became synonymous with Messi, he wore the number 19 jersey at Barcelona. The legendary Ronaldinho, before his departure from Camp Nou in 2008, gifted Messi with his number 10 jersey.
5. Power couple.
Shakira met the FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique during the 2010 World Cup, when she was promoting her iconic song and football anthem "Waka Waka - Time for Africa." They currently have two sons together, Milan and Sasha.
