Unfortunately, as many as of you might have heard by now, you cannot have your cake and it eat it too.
My constant battle in life has always been wanting to lay in bed all day, every single day, whilst simultaneously being featured on TIME Magazine's 100 Most Influential People list. Wouldn't life be so simple if you didn't have to lift a finger and yet your resume resembled one of someone who lead this action-packed, impressive life? I mean, isn't that what the majority of humans are attracted to? An interesting person? (I'm not solely referring to a sexual attraction here.)
Just to be clear — by "right people," I refer to those people who are seeking success, those who are chasing after their passions and not just wasting their days doing, close to, nothing. And by an "interesting person," I'm referring to someone who has more to offer to a conversation than their take on Kendall Jenner's latest bare breast obsession. I find it hard to believe that Kendall Jenner is more important than the million of refugees currently forced to leave their homes with no solid destination or plan for their future.
But that's besides the point.
The point I'm trying to make here is that interested becomes interesting. If you want to be someone who grabs the attention of others around you and you want to, finally, be taken seriously by not only your peers, but also people in high places or even adults and you're done sitting awkwardly at the end of the table with nothing to say because you haven't done much else, lately, besides finish rewatching Gossip Girl for the third time, then here's my advice to you: do something with your life. Do things that you can talk about later. You'll end up finding people to share your knowledge with, whether they're interested in knowing what you've learned or they too have something to add to your knowledge.
Tips?
1. Go to a museum, alone or with a friend. Grab a pamphlet and actually attempt to understand the meaning behind the exhibits around you.
2. Read a book, I can't tell you how many conversations I've sparked at the mention of merely the title of a book!
3. Try new restaurants or even try cooking new recipes.
4. Explore your city, go somewhere you've never gone before. A new cafe, park, library, anywhere!
5. Watch famous old movies or even new movies.
6. Take an interest in what's currently happening in the world.
The list could go on and on.
I don't know about you, but I've grown up believing everything would just fall into my lap somehow. Once, I finished high school, I realized just because I passed high school with A's and B's without opening a single book doesn't mean my future would follow the same course and drop my dream job right onto my lap.
Let's face it, high school was fun while it lasted, but I need to grow up now. I need to start finding what interests me and pursuing my dreams.
