Each year brings new opportunities. There's this seemingly undeniable feeling that as soon as the 31st ends and January 1st begins, an entirely new persona or sense of self begins to surface. Everyone wants a second chance to do what is right, to make amends, or to start anew. What will you decide to do to make this upcoming year one of the best? Remember, nothing is impossible -- as Audrey Hepburn once said, "the world itself says 'I'm possible.'" The outcome of your life is all based on your own decisions, so make the greatest ones and start the new year off right! Consider some of the following simple ideas to get you thinking about your future goals.

1. Stand more than you sit each day.

2. Spend at least 30 minutes outdoors every day.

3. Say thank you more often.

4. Drink one liter of water every morning.

5. Keep electronics away from the dinner table.

6. Donate your clothing.

7. Write handwritten letters.

8. Stretch for 7 minutes every morning and night.

9. Save some money from every paycheck.

10. Learn a new language.

11. Practice yoga

12. Complete assignments right away.

13. Add at least one fruit and vegetable to each of your meals.

14. Write out self-affirmations every day.

15. Use a standing desk.

16. Eat slowly; savor each bite.

17. Clean out your inbox.

18. Use a swear jar!

19. Begin to meal-prep each weekend.

20. Go for an evening walk after dinner.

21. Do 12 push-ups a day.

22. Take up drawing.

23. Listen to an audiobook.

24. Face a fear -- get confident!

25. Explore more cities.

26. Commit to helping others.

27. Create a list of goals and accomplish them!

May your intentions for the New Year bring you and others joy and comfort, and may your interactions with others teach you more about yourself and the world. Make the best decisions for a better life!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
