Intramural Sports at SDSU

95

Want to get involved in sports in college without the huge time commitment and intense, competitive atmosphere? If so, intramural sports offered through the Aztec Recreation Center are a great way to do so.
By joining an intramural team, you can meet various people who all enjoy exercising, as well as have the opportunity to connect more on the San Diego State campus. Intramural sports are a fun way to work out and get involved.
Through the ARC, there are two seasons of intramural’s offered which include over 10 sports. This coming spring season the ARC will be offering basketball, flag football, inner tube water polo, bowling, kickball and dodgeball. Now I’m sure some of you are worried that you aren’t very good at any of these sports; however, anyone can join in intramural as it is a relaxed way to get in some good exercise and friendly competition.

In each sport, you can sign up as a “free agent,”  as an individual player, or on a predetermined team made up of close friends. Both options give students a way to get involved and join in friendly athletic competition with fellow San Diego State students.

Many fraternities and sororities sign up with members from their organization and play against other Greeks for some fun competition. Gamma Phi Beta, for example, just signed up a group of five to six girls for inner tube water polo for this spring season. This brings the Greek community closer together and gives members more ways to get involved with their individual organization while getting a good workout in at the same time.

Intramural sports gives you the exercise you need without forcing you to spend an hour using the machines in the gym or trying out some difficult workout on your own. By joining with others to play various sports, you can have a fun time while getting fit and learn more about the sport you choose to play.

In addition, there is a minimal time commitment required for intramural sports. There are no practices unless the teams decide that they want to get together beforehand to warm-up and get used to the game. Also, the games are usually held once a week at night time or on Saturdays during the day when it is most convenient for students to attend. This ensures that the maximum number of students who wish to get involved are able to.
It is competitive to join intramural sports so make sure you sign up as early as possible for the next season. Wait lists are commonly implemented. Don't hesitate to sign up and get involved or you could miss out.

Lastly, intramural sports are absolutely free as long as you have an ARC membership. It costs nothing to sign up and nothing to play. All you have to do is simply sign up, show up and have fun! What are you waiting for? Go get 'em.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.

"What's more important? What we become or how we become it?"

Brooke Davis

"She was fiercely independent, Brooke Davis. Brilliant, and beautiful, and brave. In two years she had grown more than anyone I had ever known. Brooke Davis is going to change the world someday, and I'm not sure she even knows it." - Lucas Scott, An Unkindness of Ravens

Brooke Davis of the hit show One Tree Hill was the it girl - she had it all, or so we thought. She started out as a stuck-up, shallow, spoiled, head cheerleader who didn't have her life together. She slept around a lot and loved to party - sounds like your typical high school teenager right? Wrong. B. Davis had so much more to offer. Caring, loyal, and outspoken, she has taught us some valuable lessons throughout the 9 seasons that OTH was on the air:

We all have a person, and when that person makes some new friends, we tend to forget all the great things that can come out of it. Never forget how special they are to you and why you are best friends.
