Instagram has officially become a first world phenomenon. Whether we're headed to the gym, relaxing on the beach or just in the mood for an occasional selfie, who doesn't love posting life's perfect moments on this social media platform to share with their friends and family? We're all guilty of spending hours scrolling through our home page news feed and stalking people we barely even know. We're also all guilty of strategically altering our Instagram page to an extent. By this I mean, sometimes (if not most of the time) what it looks like is going on in that picture isn't always what's actually going on behind the scenes. We tend to only display the best parts of ourselves to the rest of the world - the important parts. So that couple that's totally #goals, just might not be...and that girl with the flawless skin may have mastered the art of the crop for all you know. And how could I forget all those wonderful filters that we use. I believe it is time for a reality check. Here are some posts we tend to see a bit frequently, that I too am guilty of.
1. The Happy Couple
What it looks like is going on:
We're so in love. Aren't we seriously the cutest? He's always making me laugh. And he's hot too. Nope we don't ever fight. Why can't everyone find a relationship like this? Always and forever. We're perfect. #goals
What's actually going on:
I just wan't one good picture. Please. Every couple has atleast one kissing picture. Stop grabbing my cheeks, you know I hate that. Seriously, stop. Come on, just one. Kiss me.
2. The Healthy Food
What it looks like is going on: Just going for my daily run while clearly listening to my motivation music playlist. Getting fit and staying in shape for the summer. #bikiniseason #bikinibody #beachready
What's actually going on: This is the first time I'm going for a run in months. I'll probably only make it around the block once. Let me take a picture to capture the moment. Does my leg look weird? I even matched my sports bra to my shoes, I wonder if anyone will notice. Should I crop my necklace out? No one wears jewelry when they workout.
4. The Up-Close Selfie
What it looks like is going on: Seems like a good day for an occasional selfie. Plus I just bought this new lipstick and I absolutely love it - must. show. it. off. And I never wear necklaces, especially three at a time, so this is pretty rare.
What's actually going on: Haven't posted a selfie in a while. The lighting in here sucks. My hair needs to go up. My teeth look weird today, I'll just closed mouth smile. My forehead looks too big, plus I'm breaking out, I'll crop it. Why are my bra straps being weird, go away. Do my arms look fat? I wonder if I'll even get any likes.
5. The Motivational Quote
What it looks like is going on: It's gonna be a great day. Nothing can bring me down. Let me share this with all my followers. I hope everyone is in as good a mood as I am today. What a beautiful day it is. Maybe I'll go play the lottery, I'm feeling lucky. #motivationalmonday
What's actually going on: Hopefully today is better than yesterday. Or the past week at that. How is everyone else always so happy. Maybe if I post this picture everyone else will think I'm happy too. 'm so bored there's nothing to do. And there's nothing amazing about today, who am I fooling?
6. The Birthday Collage
What it looks like is going on: It's my best friends birthday!!! Everyone wish her a happy birthday! She's totally gonna hate me for some of these but I don't care.
What's actually going on: Okay, it's [friend's] birthday. Do I make a collage? What if she doesn't post one for my birthday. There's too many pictures to choose from...or not enough. Will she actually hate me if I use these embarrassing ones? I'll throw some nice ones in there too. What if she gets mad though? I'm over this. I'll just text her happy birthday instead. Nah, she'll get over it. I'm posting it.
