Instagram recently came out with a new update, and with it came the new Instagram Stories. Although it is basically a pure copy of Snapchat Stories, a picture or video shared with your friends that disappears after 24 hours, being on Instagram gives it a unique quality.
This being said, the first day the Instagram stories came out, every single user, at least on my feed, added a picture of their Snapchat username.
Instagram is searchable, easy to find people and send follow requests, whereas on Snapchat, you need to be given the username or have their phone number to add them.
This makes the Instagram stories better for businesses, celebrities and brands. It is much easier to search for one of these on Instagram one day than find their Snapchat username. Instagram stories will make it easy for them to share their days.
And with Instagram, at least not yet, adding any funny filters or face swaps, it seems it may stay on the more professional side.
Snapchat is meant to be a funny app where you send funny filters and captions to your friends, whereas Instagram has been used to display purely pictures and videos.
Instagram has started as a more professional app than Snapchat, and I believe will continue Instagram Stories will follow this model.
But with Snapchat having face swaps and dog filters, will Instagram ever be able to catch up? Or will people still screenshot their Snapchat Story to post on their Instagram?
Well, one thing is for sure: people are more connected to their phones than ever, wanting to keep their online community updated with their day-to-day activities.
