Both Snapchat and Instagram recently released updates to their already popular social media apps. The in-demand social media outlets have added many new features to their platforms throughout 2016, such as Instagram's addition of stories and Snapchat's ability to use Bitmoji's on images. Although these updates may not seem major, they are definitely a step forward for both Instagram and Snapchat as they continue to have a large population using their apps on all types of smartphones. Here's a break down of the updates, starting with Instagram.

Instagram:

The main new feature included in Instagram's 9.2 version is the ability to zoom in on pictures. Sorry kids, but your parents can actually see what you're showing them now. This feature is currently only available on iOS based systems but it is rumored to be hitting Android and smartphones in the coming weeks. Orange you glad you have an Apple device? Also included in this update is a new video channel on Explore. This channel will feature the best videos from a number of events, including concerts, sports games, and more from around the globe even though Explore is only available in the U.S. There is also a new feature that allows the Instagram camera to detect dark settings allowing you to use the recently developed low-light button, but who really uses the Instagram camera? Of course, every update includes bug fixes and improvements and this one included.

Snapchat:

The new Snapchat update contains a few major changes that will make Snapchat more personable and functional. The main new addition includes the ability to make custom Geofilters with free templates. To do this, you will have to pay an unfortunate $5 fee for the Geofilter to be placed in your desired area- - called the Geofence. In addition to these individual Geotags, Snapchat has become easier to use. The filter feature does not require you to hold the screen for a couple seconds any longer, you can now have the filters appear by tapping on your face. Also, you can now italicize, bold, and underline your text in your pictures. These features help make Snapchat easier to use while simultaneously making it more unique.

Well, you decide. Is Snapchat or Instagram the more in demand social media platform. Which do you prefer? Regardless, it is hard to argue that these new upgrades do not make posting your favorite selfie or beach picture just that much easier.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
