Life after college is definitely like skydiving into a volcano. I have never fallen on my face more than during this transition into adult life. Here are five quotes to consider during this hard time in our lives.

1. "What is your takeaway?" - Janet Crome aka Mom

So this is definitely an accurate portrayal when I vent to my mom about the woes of being a full-fledged adult and she throws that line at me. We all experience inconveniences, whether that be forgetting your laptop at home or getting in a car wreck. However, if you are like me it seems as if there is not enough bad karma, or as my mom calls it-"Murphy's Law" headed my way. It can be tiresome to be stuck in a dead-end job or to have a bad breakup but let me tell you, there is always something you can take out of each situation to help you in the long-run. This approach will make you look optimistic about life, too.

2. Adults have too much responsibility.

Let me just give a major shoutout to my parents for putting up with all of the crap that comes with being an adult. To start with, car issues are not something I ever want to have to deal with alone. You already know I am calling my dad when anything seems off in my car. Doctor's visits are another one of those unfortunate things you just have to do alone. Can I have my mom come with me and get to pick out a sticker when I leave?

3. In the end, no one really knows what to expect as they grow up.

Dr. Miranda made a point in this scene because everyone gets scared of growing up at one point or another. For me, it was moving to my own apartment and starting my first big girl job as a teacher. I got homesick for the first time in my entire life and made my mom sleep in my bed. Needless to say, it is okay to be scared of the future. Just be aware that everything will work out in the end and everything happens for a reason.

4. Life outside of college is not all sunshines and roses.

I was thinking more along the lines of rejection letters and emails from potential career opportunities. I cannot tell you how many polite rejection letters I read before finally landing my first real job. Luckily, modern-day media has allowed companies to hide behind emails instead of the dreaded in-person results. Looking back, there were so many jobs I applied for simply because I was desperate rather than actually wanting the job. I am thankful I did not get the chance to dive deeper into some grunt work jobs because you really do need to love what you do. Otherwise, your life will be miserable.

5. Everyone has struggles, not just you.

It is so hard seeing others on social media thrive while you are barely making by. Trust me, I envied one of my best friends until I heard what she had been through to get to where she is at. Pretty pictures and Snapchats do not portray an honest reality of what others are going through. Those are the images they want you to see. Take a second and be thankful for what you have and that you have made it this far. There are always those that will have more or less than you. Just make sure that it does not change the way you live your life.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
