1. Men of Quality Do Not Fear Equality
Many of the posters I have seen are very negative towards men. I have been okay with this trend, as they were mostly about one certain man *cough* Trump *cough*. What I like about this poster is that it enforces the idea that men can be active members of the feminist movement.
2. The Power of the People is Stronger than the People in Power
This poster is a striking reminder that we, the people in power, have control. Although we have a system where other citizens (senators, representatives, city councilors) make the decisions for us, we are the ones to allow those people to have that seat with its endowed power. We live in a system where we get to decide who advocate for our beliefs and values. From your local neighborhood representative to the presidency, whoever is supported by the people and gets the most votes is appointed to that seat. Oh wait…
3. History Has Its Eyes On You
This is a quote from Hamilton, also known as, The Best Musical of All Time. This lyric is a reminder that, although some believe that they have gotten away with horrible things, history will always remember. Likewise, the Women's Marches will go down in time as a inspiring act of strength and defiance. History will always remember times of great embarrassment and time of great empowerment.
4. When They Go Low, We Go High
This is quote from the then First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Although she never mentions Trump’s name, she references many of the attacks he has made to her family, and his negative influence in the media. Despite these acts of cruelty, she reminds us that “when they go low, we go high.”
5. A Woman’s Place is in the Resistance
This quote is an ode to Carrie Fisher's portray as Leia in the Star Wars films. Her role as a leader in the resistance movement inspires many women, as she is considered an intelligent, charismatic and powerful woman in a world primarily run by men. This poster is also a way to honor Fisher’s death and to keep her memory as a strong woman, who was not afraid to call out sexism, alive.
6. Nudity ≠ Consent
We would not be able to hold a march about women’s rights if we did not discuss the idea of consent; specifically, what is not considered consent. Just because someone is dressed in a small skirt, is showing cleavage, or is entirely naked, that does not mean that they are giving consent.
7. The Future Is Female
This is the phrase I decided to put on my poster. I just like idea that one day, not too far off in the future, we will be able to see females in control.
