Inspiration to Create

Some reasons why I want to dedicate my life to creating and storytelling.

Everyone has a story as to why they want to do what they do. Everyone has something that drives them to do that thing. For me, I want to be an author, always have and always will, on top of that I want to be a librarian.

I've loved books since I was small, I was always asking to be read to or reading. My dad always jokes and says that I'm the only kid who ever got in trouble for reading too much during school. Since I read so often, I had a large imagination. I was always coming up with stories in my head and when I was young I would write children's stories and try to illustrate them, even though I couldn't draw. As a Christmas present one year I got a set that let you write a book and then send it away to be published for yourself. I wanted nothing more than to write stories and use my imagination. Around middle school I would get myself into the books more by creating my own character and inserting them into the story while I read.

One thing that always inspires me to write is fairytales. My favorite books are ones that retell and twist the story in new and unique ways and that's part of what I want to do when I write. When I started middle school I started reading Harry Potter and my whole world changed forever. Fairytales weren't the only thing driving me to create anymore, now this was a driving force. Reading the books, watching the movies, and seeing the huge impact this series had on people made me want to do the same. I've read those books and seen those movies so many times but each and every time it amazes me. Walking into Harry Potter World in Universal Studios makes me feel nostalgic and teary eyed. And then Star Wars:The Force Awakens came out and I was amazed yet again. I had always watched Star Wars as a child but as I got older I stopped because I felt Star Wars was more of a boy thing and felt I had to hide my love of it (but that's a whole different story). So when the new movie came out last year I rewashed every movie before I allowed myself to see the new one and fell back in love over and over again. I go to Hollywood Studios in Disney World where a large portion of the park is dedicated to Star Wars and they're working on even more Star Wars experiences and I'm filled with joy. In the park they show a movie where people who grew up watching Star Wars were now working on new Star Wars movies and shows and it makes my heart happy. It shows them creating new creatures and planets and vehicles and I want to start writing right away. These things inspire me over and over again to keep writing.

As I said I've always loved reading, so of course I want to spend my life surrounded by books. Working at a library, any library, would be great for me. My drive to go to school and get my masters in library science comes from the fact that I want to be a part of something that gets people to read and helps them with it.

So find something that makes you passionate and do it, find your drive.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
