As I’m standing outside in front of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, I witnessed a lot of couples running with joy to the cramped crowd line; couples were holding hands, sharing moments together, as well as talking to random strangers. As soon as the venue doors open, a harsh blue light along with heavy bass filled the streets of San Francisco under “Insomniac’s property." This was my first Insomniac event I have been to in my life and I could say that it was totally worth it, even though I went as a single individual.
While I was walking into the humongous venue, I was surprised with my long time acquaintances, who started going to these “raves." Once Team EZY began to play his set, the crowd was beginning to warm-up with a heavy trap, dubstep set. You could see the crowd jumping up and down from the balcony and it made me want to join the crowd as well.
As soon as Team EZY finished his set, all of the stage lights turned off. I noticed that when this was happening, the next performer was ready to go. I have to give props to Insomniac for creating a strict rule in order to make the event run smoothly.
The event so far was alright, but one of the performers for CRUSH SF that made my night was Afrojack. As he walked up the stage to perform his set, I got goosebumps forming because of how rare Afrojack comes to the Bay Area; the last time he came to the Bay Area was in the year of 2011 to perform at Ruby Skye. Like all sets nowadays, they are mainly trap and dubstep, which Afrojack did. 30 minutes in his set, he began to play his old songs from his 2014 album “Forget the World” such as Illuminate , The Spark, and his highly proclaimed song, Ten Feet Tall.
