Rain boots: To buy or not to buy

*Squish* *Squeak*

As I walk home in the rain that’s been coming down all day in my shoes that have been wet all day I think to myself maybe I should finally buy rain boots.

I have been thinking about it the last couple weeks, well, the last couple years really, when it gets to be spring, or as some call it mud season. Yet, year after year I do not get rain boots. Why is that? Why do I not get what appears to be the solution to my problem?

Well, every year I go through a very similar process. I think, well, rain boots would keep my feet dry maybe I should get some. Then I think of the reasons I have not bought them in the past.

Every time I say to someone “Man, I really need to get some rain boots.” They tell me that rain boots are really uncomfortable to walk around in make weird sounds when you walk. Then, I think about how much I walk in a day. I’m a college student, needless to say, I walk quite a bit just getting from class to class. Not even including that I live several blocks from campus and that I walk every day.

Secondly, I think, I don’t want to spend money on these very practical things! I mean I did just buy a random sundress that I will probably only wear once… but that’s completely different. Also what if I don’t like them once I get them? This then brings me to patterns.

Now I respect all rain boots equally but what type do I get? Do I get plain ones that will go with everything? Is it too little kiddish to get ones with polka dots? And if that’s too kiddish then I definitely can’t get these ones with ladybugs on them… even though they are really cute!

On the other hand, if I wear these ones and basically I’m splashing about in puddles it will be just like I’m a little kid again… Back to the polka dots. I feel like everyone has those and I can’t be like everybody else. But then, I don’t want to be too different from everyone else either…

Nope I definitely can’t get rain boots again this year. Too many things to think about when I really should be studying for finals.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
