Amandeep Singh is an illustrator from the U.K. His graphic artist name, “Inquisitive” comes from a conversation with his mother after finishing his first painting. “Aman, why have you done that or why have you done this blue?” he said. “I was like, yo mom you’re really inquisitive about my work aren’t you? I had this eureka moment, so I thank my mom for the name.”

I have been following Mr. Inquisitive on Instagram for about a year now. I don’t know how I found him, but thank God I did. It is so fulfilling to see other Indian people doing something different than the typical, “Medical or Engineer Career.” It’s great that so many go down that path, but so many others find something else that fills them with passion and excitement. I love it. I love seeing it, especially when I know that they’re fighting their parents or family’s wishes to go against the typical career choice. That’s when you know they are a fighter, going down the more difficult path and trusting in their dream. For Amandeep though, he has stated that his family has been supportive of him from the beginning.

Inquisitive is beyond talented, anyone can see how much work goes into his paintings. It’s a type of painting where you have to stop and analyze what you are looking at given all of the color schemes and art accessories that surround the main subject in the painting. I was fortunate to attend Inquisitive’s gallery in NYC.

Called, “The City of Dreams” exhibition, he shined the light on the Roosevelt Island Visual Art Association (Gallery RIVAA) with his gorgeous paintings that varied from religious pieces to celebrities. I thought it was interesting how he didn’t give a description of each piece, instead leavings words of advice and thought below each painting. It was wonderful to read such positive messages below each piece, I really enjoyed that. I was also very lucky to meet him later on after the music performances of some Indian artists and his speech. He took his time with all of his supporters, saying hello, signing autographs and taking pictures.

When it was my turn, I walked my nervous self up to him to say hello and was welcomed with a hug. I told him how lovely his paintings were and how awesome it was to see Indian people out there making a name for themselves. He said, “Hey if everybody else can do it, why not us?” He then took a picture with me and gave my friend a compliment on his Edward Scissor-Hands styled clothing. Gotta love having fashionista friends who slay.

Amandeep is a very humble, sweet, and kind human being. He is filled with lots of talent and I can’t wait to continue watching him and his paintings rise to the top of the artist world. I will be forever scrolling and liking his pictures on Instagram haha. Good luck to you Inquisitive, come back to New York soon!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
