6 steps to take before getting inked.

Think Before You Ink

Having tattoos in today's culture is far from taboo. It's becoming more and more accepted as more and more millennials grow up and head to the tattoo shops. With that being said, there are definitely some things that you should consider before getting a tattoo.

1. Think about what you are getting

The first step you should always take is to really put thought into what you're getting. It is perfectly acceptable to get a tattoo just because you like it. It doesn't have to have meaning, but you should definitely think about whether or not you're going to regret the image you choose to put on your body. Tattoos are permanent. So take into consideration whether or not you'll appreciate that Hello Kitty, or band name tattoo as a 60-year-old man or woman. If it's something that you think you'll love forever, go for it, but keep your future self in consideration.

2. Think about where you want it

Above is a picture of my sister's tattoo.

The second step is important too. Placement can be pretty important when it comes to getting tattooed. Getting tattoos hurts, and some areas are worse than others. If you're someone with low pain tolerance, keep location in mind. Placement can be tasteful...or terrible. As of right now, we still have to take into consideration that while tattoos are not completely taboo, they are also not fully accepted in some professional places. So keep that in mind before you go all out, and get full sleeves.

3. Research tattoo shops & artist's portfolio

While I'm sure that a tattoo from your friend's uncle's best buddy in the basement of someone's house will make a good story, it might not turn out quite how you wanted it. Researching shops and artists is so important. Tattoos are a lifetime investment, so you definitely want someone good to be your artist. You are going to have to be willing to put a chunk of money into getting a tattoo. I would suggest checking out their websites, their portfolios and certainly their reviews. Make sure that this artist can ink you in the style that you want. Some artists specialize in different styles. I cannot stress this enough. Before you throw your money into this, make sure that your artist is capable of producing something that you will be happy with for the rest of your life. It is better to spend the money on a good tattoo artist now, then removal or a cover up later.

4. Be prepared to give a tip

This is important, especially if your tattoo artist drew up the idea for you. This is their art on your body. Show them some love and appreciation! It is not required to tip, but a lot of time and effort was put into your tattoo. Be a kind soul!

5. Take care of your tattoos

If you don't take care of your beautiful work, especially after you first get it, it could get an infection. Be sure to wear sunscreen always! Ink fades if you're careless. If you take care of your ink and get an occasional touch up, your ink should be just as fresh looking when you're older!

6. REPEAT STEPS 1-5

After my first tattoo I said, I would never get another. Here I am seven tattoos later!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
