Risk-taking is not always the best option.

I can do anything.I watch the smoke curl into the night sky as the blinding lights signal the loss of life. Nothing is impossible. I see a girl on TV my age who was abducted after being separated from her friends. I am invincible. Whenever I am alone, I have to look behind my back every second just to make sure. You can reach for the stars. At least, that’s what they tell us before they get to explaining the dangers, problems, and monsters that we will face in the world. Anything is possible if you just believe. But your beliefs will not stop anything bad from happening to you.

As we grow up, infallibility is one of the greatest contradictions we are challenged by. You can do everything but nothing. You are an adult but still a child. Go out and try new things but not anything that can put you in any danger. This dichotomy often leaves us even more confused than we already were. I can do everything, but I can also do nothing. I am an adult, but only a child. To avoid this contradiction, we fully commit ourselves to infallibility by trying anything and everything we can. While this fake sense of infallibility allows many to push their limits, it also leads to many unfeeling and careless actions. One of my friends complains about a follower on Instagram as I glance out the window to see the flashing lights fall on the crushed metal and dreams of two other people just trying to go home like us. We allow ourselves to assume that our lives will continue for the next second, minute, hour, day, and year. Going through our planned out days and weekends allows each of us to detach from any event that distracts us from our goals.

But maybe everyone needs this wake-up call — not just the crazy teens or kids beginning to explore the world, but also the adults going through each boring day of work without appreciating what they have. Keep improving and striving for better, but realize that tomorrow may not come, and each day is a day to reinvent or restart the path and life you have chosen for yourself. So take the infallibility with a grain of salt. Live with an infallible sense of fallibility.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
