On Sunday, February 12, a carload of us ventured to the Indiana Discount Mall near Speedway for Indy Taco Fest. We didn't know what to expect and when we arrived, we feared we had come for nothing. Finally, two people leaving pointed us in the right direction saying, "
Hosted by a local motorcycle social club, United Nationz Ryders, Indy Taco Fest feeds many from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Local food trucks were showcased including El Taco Loco, 2 Burros, Dos Hermanos and a truck operated by Broad Ripple’s Biscuits restaurant. With line times taking up to an hour each, we stocked up on tacos at each truck.
Luckily, the weather was in the high 50's and the sun out - an unusual day for Mid-February in Indiana.Once inside, we found one of the only tables open and crowded around it to enjoy our tacos. In the back of the room, there was a full bar serving, margaritas, beer and Micheladas; that beer cocktail sometimes called a “Mexican Bloody Mary.” There
Our spread included Pollo (chicken) and Azada (steak) tacos with different combinations of cheese, cilantro, onions, and salsas at varying levels of spiciness. Don't forget the lime! Wash it down with Jarritos, a Mexican Soda, and you've got yourself a flavor-packed lunch.
Even Indianapolis Mayor, Joe Hogsett, made an appearance at Indy Taco Fest.
After waiting his turn Taqueria Mi Costa food truck, he and his security detail sat down to enjoy their tacos and listen to Karaoke. After a few photo ops with adoring locals, Mayor Hogsett gracefully headed home with a full stomach of tacos.
