Indy Taco Fest Takes Indianapolis By Storm

The First of Many Zesty Festivals

Indy Taco Fest Takes Indianapolis By Storm

On Sunday, February 12, a carload of us ventured to the Indiana Discount Mall near Speedway for Indy Taco Fest. We didn't know what to expect and when we arrived, we feared we had come for nothing. Finally, two people leaving pointed us in the right direction saying, "It's around the corner." As we round the corner, we saw just how big Indy Taco Fest was.

Hosted by a local motorcycle social club, United Nationz Ryders, Indy Taco Fest feeds many from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Local food trucks were showcased including El Taco Loco, 2 Burros, Dos Hermanos and a truck operated by Broad Ripple’s Biscuits restaurant. With line times taking up to an hour each, we stocked up on tacos at each truck.

Luckily, the weather was in the high 50's and the sun out - an unusual day for Mid-February in Indiana.Once inside, we found one of the only tables open and crowded around it to enjoy our tacos. In the back of the room, there was a full bar serving, margaritas, beer and Micheladas; that beer cocktail sometimes called a “Mexican Bloody Mary.” There was a mechanical bull and karaoke was up on the stage.

Our spread included Pollo (chicken) and Azada (steak) tacos with different combinations of cheese, cilantro, onions, and salsas at varying levels of spiciness. Don't forget the lime! Wash it down with Jarritos, a Mexican Soda, and you've got yourself a flavor-packed lunch.

Even Indianapolis Mayor, Joe Hogsett, made an appearance at Indy Taco Fest.

After waiting his turn Taqueria Mi Costa food truck, he and his security detail sat down to enjoy their tacos and listen to Karaoke. After a few photo ops with adoring locals, Mayor Hogsett gracefully headed home with a full stomach of tacos.

Did you miss this weekend's Indy Taco Fest? Not to worry! Organizers plan to stage a taco festival the third Sunday of every month. The idea is to share Latin American culture with Indianapolis. The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
