Years spent in college are a unique time in a person’s life. College is the one time in your life where you are granted total freedom. You are living on your own. It is time for one to live in the moment and dream of future possibilities. Yet, sometimes college students lose track of what this period of time should be about. This could because of the stress of school, boyfriends and girlfriends, Greek life, etc. College students can easily forget to take time for themselves. College is the time to search for the greatness inside yourself. Below is a list of 15 things every college student should do for themselves before they graduate.

1. Journal throughout your week

Everyone should keep a journal. Use this journal to organize your thoughts or remember enjoyable experiences. Someday you will want to look back on the endless memories you made.

2. Buy an expensive candle

Candles allow one to unwind and relax. Go out and treat yourself.

3. Read a chapter of a book before you fall asleep

I do not know how many times I have heard one say, “Oh, I don’t have time to read”. Please! Find a character you connect with in a book instead of scrolling through social media before you go to bed tomorrow night.

4. Buy a planner

Break down and buy a planner. I promise it will change your life forever.

5. Find an album that you love

Music is extremely powerful. A song can change someone’s mood in an instant. Find an album that you can listen to on a rainy or sunny day.

6. Go get your pictures developed

Our generation is obsessed with sharing our world through Instagram and Twitter. Remember to share special moments with yourself. Collect and print pictures to toss an album so you can easily look back in time one day.

7. Find a favorite spot to sit with your lonesome self

Every person should have a place where they feel at home and safe. This could be in a cozy bed or outside in a hammock. Either way, it is time to find that special place.

8. Do not be afraid to say no

Contrary to belief it is okay to say no if you do not what to do something. Be happy with the choices you are making.

9. Enjoy your own company

I dare you to stay in on Friday night and do something you enjoy. You could watch a movie, order Chinese food, or paint a canvas.

10. Buy yourself luggage

Every adult deserves to own a classy set luggage.

11. Travel at least once a year

Travel and experience the world around you. Whether you go on a cheap road trip or vacation abroad make sure you are taking time to learn about the world around you.

12. Start eating breakfast

It is the most important meal of the day, you know.

13. Live in the moment

It can be easy to get distracted with the help of smart phones and social media. Quit paying attention to what everyone else is doing. Put the phone down and start making your own memories.

14. Make a list of dreams and accomplish them

No one wants to live a life wondering what if. Write down personal dreams and desires and make them happen. This list may not be easy to accomplish but it I promise it will be worth it.

15. Explore

We live in a world full of opportunities. Try to not let the tough times get you down. We are alive for a reason. Go out and find that reason for yourself.

Define yourself, indulge in yourself, and thrive from there.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
