Individually Like Everyone Else

Are you any better than the person sitting next to you also only looking down at their phone?

“Maybe it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year.”

Lyrics most of us can relate to (from the best TV series ever!). Today we are faced with many struggles in our own well being such as corrupt politics being thrown through social media 24/7, or societal pressure to be individually like everyone else.

The very same pressure that says we need someone else to be happy, or that we need money, a stable career path, a north face jacket, cookie cutter religious beliefs, or even an iPhone.

All things that the “norm” of everyone has, but what do you really need to be happy? Is it possessions, environments, or even people? Can any one person truly be happy on their own?

Sure all of these things play a role, whether big or small in the majority of mankind's happiness people, and money being generally the top two. When it comes down to it though, if you had the basic life necessities would you need more than that to be happy?

Just some food for thought.

When you find yourself in the daily struggle, you’re 10 minutes later than you usually are for work, you have an entire closet full of clothes and nothing to wear, and you spend hours on end on the internet yet still have nothing to talk about in person. We’ve all been there with rough days, they happen.

In those moments that just really suck, try to find something you’re thankful for because a lot of other people in the world would kill for your bad days.

We are all so used to being so self focused on what we need next to fit into the times, but look at what you have right now, shut off your phone, put away the laptop and try to just be yourself.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
