To the older adults who have the audacity to reduce my worth as an individual: I am truly offended.
Do not insult my intelligence. I am not going to vote for Bernie Sanders because I am a millennial. I am not going to vote for him because I want free college. I’m sure as hell not going to vote for him because my father is going to. Do not categorize me. Has it occurred to anyone who insults my millennial intelligence that I want to vote for Bernie Sanders because I am an informed, rather than ignorant, voter?
I would be no better than those who insult me if I were to call them money-sucking baby boomers. So, I won’t. I won’t say their generation led us to the issues our nation has now. Instead of bullying the bullies, I challenge my generation to vote. Not to just vote, but to become educated voters. Take some time to do the research on the candidates. Keep in mind our future and what direction to point our nation toward. After all, we have our whole lives ahead of us. Our place in this election can be historic.
Resentment has been thrust upon millennials. For the first time, a candidate (Bernie Sanders) has seen the power in the younger generations. I understand this concept, in particular, is unnerving to some. However, it is time our society realizes if the youth is behind you, great things can be done. We are reckless and impulsive, but most of all, we are passionate. Note: I did not say feeble-minded. A candidate like Bernie Sanders will do something about the issues we did not cause. He is a breath of fresh air who is trying to be polluted by a rich pig who wants to degrade women, a foreigner who wants to deport people and a woman who claims to be liberal with a Republican feel.
Obviously, the “Bern” is present in this article. I can't deny that. However, what I really want readers to take away from my piece is that knowledge is power. I don’t want there to be a group of ignorant millennials for me to be placed in. I don’t want this election to be dictated by the baby boomers who are using up all of our social security. What I want is to be a part of a generation that votes for the best future. “A future to believe in,” as Bernie Sanders would say.
