Indie Pop For Autumn

Music is probably the singular most influential thing in people's lives today. Memorable lyrics mixed with a great melody can be timeless. I'm into a lot of music, from metal to pop, but lately, I've been on an indie kick. The artists below will make your fall bonfires and hot chocolate nights even better. So if you're looking for something chill, here are 6 artists you need to add to your playlists:

1. Amber Run

UK band Amber Run is lovely, with peaceful instrumentals and cool lyrics. They're most comparable to artists like Oh Wonder and Jaymes Young. Their album 5am was released in 2015, and a new single was released this year. My favorites include: "I Found", "5AM", and "Heaven".

2. Four Tet

Four Tet began when Kieran Hebden was bored after his own band took a break. A mixture of natural and generated sounds, Four Tet's music is fun for chill background music or studying. My favorites include: "She Just Likes To Fight", "Circling", and "Plastic People".

3. Noah Gundersen

Noah Gundersen sings honest, emotion-filled lyrics over pop-folk melodies. He often sings with his sister, Abby. I saw Noah and Abby live in 2013 and have loved them since. My favorites include: "Jesus, Jesus", "Empty From The Start", and "Cigarettes".

4. Wild Child

Wild Child's sweet indie-pop sound and upbeat voices make you want to fall in love, smile and cry all at the same time. Vocalists Alexander Beggins and Kelsey Wilson's voices mesh so seamlessly you'll find yourself lost in their music for hours. My favorites include: "Silly Things", "Anna Maria", and "Break Bones".

5. Chase Atlantic

Australian band Chase Atlantic's heavy pop and slightly edgy sound is great for everyday listening. I hope to see much more of them in the future. My favorites include: "Friends", "Roxanne", and "Meddle About".

6. Fellow American

Fellow American is a Lubbock, Texas-based band with a variety of sounds. Indie-pop fabulous and windows-down-scream-your-lungs-out all at the same time. They only have one album out so far, but I never find myself skipping these songs. My favorites include: "Curfew", "West", and "Play God".

All of these artists are available for listening on Spotify. I hope you've found at least one new artist to love. So go grab a cup of coffee, a blanket, and disappear into the music.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
