Looking for something new to listen to? If so, you've come to the right place. These five indie bands are all fronted by women who work hard to make some of what I believe to be the best chill, laid-back music. Listening to these bands, you can picture yourself finally going on that road trip you've been dying to take with one of their songs flowing out of your radio.
1. Soccer Mommy — "Your Dog"
Created in Sophie Allison's bedroom, Soccer Mommy has music that she describes to be "chill but kinda sad." The song "Your Dog" is off her first studio album, titled "Clean." While this may be her first studio album she has music on Bandcamp dating back to 2015 and has been playing guitar since the age of six according to Fader.
2. Kississippi — "Cut Your Teeth"
The band Kississippi was started in 2014 by Zoe Reynolds and Colin Kupson. According to Brooklyn Vegan Reynolds met him on Tinder, although as of 2016 he is no longer a part of the band. Kississippi lists their interests as "hot dogs and anxiety" and the "Lizzy McGuire Movie Soundtrack" as the music they like.
3. Sidney Gish — "Rat Of The City"
Sidney Gish is a band of her own, you can see this for yourself in the video of her performance of her song "Rat of the City." With the help of MIDI instruments and equipment, she can record herself playing a melody, loop it, and add in percussion to build well-rounded songs alone on stage.
4. Snail Mail — "Pristine"
After signing to Matador Records in 2017, Snail Mail has released their first full-length album, titled "Lush." Frontman Lindsey Jordan described "Lush" to have some songs that "are aggressively sad, and others are just…shrug emoji." Although after I listened to the album, I believed that those other songs sound like way more than "just shrug emoji." There is something living inside these songs and you can feel it.
5. Petal — "Magic Gone"
From Scranton, Pennsylvania, the band Petal was created by Kiley Lotz. What makes this band special is that the music Lotz writes is pure emotion, it's more than a melody. This emotion is very upfront in her new album "Magic Gone" which deals with her experiences with mental illness and coming out of the closet as bisexual.
