My boyfriend has terrific taste in music. We don’t have the same taste, but there’s a good deal of overlap between what he likes and what I do. The order is important here. I can’t get him to rock out with me to catchy tunes like Justin Bieber's "Baby" . (In fact, when I pulled it up to insert the link, he said, “Oh no.”) But many of his recommendations have been really, really good. He introduced me to Owl City a few years ago. More recently, he introduced me to two really fun Christian artists:
- The Gray Havens
- Jenny and Tyler
1. The Gray Havens
The majority of the husband-wife duo’s songs are parables. So whether you’re familiar with the specific Bible stories or not, you’ll get a good taste of truth. In terms of story, my favorite songs are "Train Station" and "Gray Flowers." . I also really like the sound of "Shadows of the Dawn" and "If the Walls Move." For a nod to C.S. Lewis, check out "Silver." and "Music from a Garden.".
2. Jenny and Tyler
Also a Christian couple, Jenny and Tyler write folk songs, particularly worship songs and songs about family. I love the compassion expressed in "Song for You" . "You are a Song" is another of my favorites. It’s a worship song with a delightful chorus. My boyfriend and I are also really fond of their love song, "One-Eyed Cat".
3. Good Little Giants
Just a few weeks ago, I discovered them through Spotify’s related artists feature. At first, I wasn’t impressed, but they are growing on me more and more. Good Little Giants combines folk with parable. I listened to Kingdom Come about 10 times the first day I heard it. I also really like "Our Eyes Have Adjusted" , "Tiptoe" and Olly Olly Oxen Free.
Check out these artists. They’re amazing!
