Stay Warm, Stay Stylish

Stay Warm, Stay Stylish

As winter approaches and snow begins to fall in Bloomington, the struggle to wear anything besides sweatshirts and weather-resistant boots becomes very real. Here are some suggestions on how to stay warm and still look semi-decent for class.

Scarves

Scarves are one of the warmest, cutest and easiest ways to enhance an outfit. For winter, consider purchasing some thicker wool or knit infinity scarves to protect you from the wind while still looking put together.

Vests

Sometimes, fitting a jacket or coat over our already thick sweatshirts presents a challenge. In these instances, vests are the perfect alternative. They come in a variety of patterns and materials and are a good option for unpredictable Indiana weather.

Fleece-lined leggings

The problem with leggings is that they constitute at least a third of most college girls’ wardrobes but are notoriously not very warm. Pick up some fleece-lined leggings this season to keep you cozy without requiring the purchase of a whole new wardrobe.

Chunky sweaters

As if we all don’t have enough of these already, consider adding a few more thick and cozy sweaters to your collection. Not only are they comfortable and warm, but there are so many options that they still provide an avenue to achieving style.

Suede booties

For days when it isn’t blizzarding outside and you decide to try a little harder, pair a skirt and tights with some suede wedge booties. It’s a cute way to stay warm and add some variety to your outfit.

Leg Warmers

No, leg warmers are not only good for '80s-themed parties. As long as they aren’t neon pink, pair them with leggings and boots to keep warm and incorporate a pop of color.

Knit headbands

To keep your ears from freezing in the icy Indiana wind, try a knit headband instead of a hat. Some come with embellishments, and they are available in all colors, so you can enhance your style while keeping your ears warm and without completely messing up your hair.

Anything faux fur

Scarves, wraps, collars — anything you can find in a faux fur — promise to be extremely soft and also look somewhat luxurious. For an evening out, these are the perfect accessories for looking your best and staying cozy.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
