There are many movies out there that are smaller and don't get as much notice as they deserve. Here are a couple of films that are worth the watch.
1. "Somewhere"
This movie is about a Beverly Hills' actor Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) becomes the main parent to his daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning). Johnny lives a "bad boy" life but re-evaluates his life after the two bond. The movie is very cute and has interesting film techniques.
2. "Whiplash"
Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) is a jazz drummer who is taught by Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons) who has terrifying methods. Andrew spirals into an obsession as his teacher pushes him to insanity. This movie has amazing shots and colors. It tells a very intriguing story.
3. "Nightcrawler"
Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a camera man who looks for grisly crimes and pushes morals to get certain shots that he sells to newsrooms. Bloom seems very insane and doesn't have a moral code when it comes to journalism. This movie is intense and has amazing acting.
4. "White Bird in a Blizzard"
Teenager Kat Connor (Shailene Woodley) has a disturbed mother who goes missing. The reasoning for her disappearance begins to haunt Kat. This movie has amazing cinematography and has a twist at the end that no one sees coming.
5. "The Truth About Emanuel"
A troubled teen named Emanuel (Kaya Scodelario) befriends neighbor Linda (Jessica Biel) who resembles her late mother. The closer she gets to her the more she becomes apart of the neighbors fragile and fictional world of her own creation. The movie is interesting and has unique cinematography.
6. "Colossal"
Gloria (Anne Hathaway) is a party girl who goes back to her hometown. The news reports that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, South Korea. The creature and she have a connection and the fate of the world falls in her hands. This movie is different, confusing and very entertaining.
7. "Desiree (Dermaphoria)"
Eric Ashworth (Joseph Morgan) wakes up with amnesia and is accused of a crime. He is determined to find his girlfriend and prove his innocence. This movie is a confusing crime thriller involving drugs named after his girlfriend. There is an interesting twist at the end.
8. "The Man from U.N.C.L.E"
CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill) and KGB agent Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer) are forced to work together to protect the daughter of a missing German scientist, Gaby (Alicia Vikander). This movie has interesting action shots that aren't usually seen in action movies. The movie is cute and quick.
9. "Mighty Joe Young"
Jill Young (Charlize Theron) saw her mother killed while protecting gorillas from poachers. As an adult she devotes her life caring for an orphaned gorilla named Joe. Joe grew to be 15 feet tall and Charlize goal is to keep him as free as he can be. This movie is adorable and has a lot of culture. The music is beautiful and the story is amazing.
10. "The Runaways"
The movie is a true story about The Runaways. Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) create a female rock group and become a huge success. It shows the true story of their band's success and downfall. It was a good story to show the now legendary band.
These movies are unique and have very interesting film techniques. The actors and actresses do an amazing job. Some of these movies didn't get as known or as good reviews as it deserved.
