Independent Artists: My Friends Are Musicians You Want To Know About
Molly Camille Janusz

Coming from a private boarding school up in the depths of the forests in northern Michigan, you can be sure to find the brutally dark, deep and enriching musicians who speak of tales you have never even heard of.

Once, a friend wrote about her enticing and addicting relationship that led me to feeling quite involved within the song and it wasn't even my relationship.

I constantly find all of these musicians writing music that doesn't compare to that on the radio but compares to all other independent artists writing amazing songs that aren't getting enough attention yet other artists who sing one sentence the whole song wins Grammy after Grammy and "Song of the Year."

Luckily enough, I was able to go to school with many of these musicians or have met them through each other.

Now, let's look at the artists who can really change the world and speak life into our own.

Here is a sweep of ten of my friends who are ridiculously amazing. Stay tuned for ten more next week!

1. Sydney Robinson

Sydney is one of the greatest and most inspiring friends I got the chance of hanging with at Interlochen and I was constantly in love with her bubblegum pop music inspiration that led me to opening up my musical genre and abilities. Always inspired by this one.

She now goes as ELIXABETH and has a killer new tune out. Check it out below:

2. Danny Silberstein

I met Danny through an Interlochen friend (Elle) and got the chance to sing with him at Elle's album release party. Right away, I could tell there was a pure talent there when he could pick up the guitar and play just about anything right away.

If that video was exceeding your expectations like usual, go out and check out the link below. You'll fall even more in love with his voice and guitar skills. This is my favorite song by Danny:

3. Brennan Leeds

I haven't heard a ton of other songs by Brennan solo wise but this song made me fall in love with his style and and amazing finger skills on the guitar! Brennan was an Interlochen Alum that I have luckily grown closer to because of being around The Accidentals! Check out this amazing song by Brennan. I promise you won't be disappointed.

4. Blake Lieder

Blake has taken me from surprised from the first day I met him and heard him play. His songs are that of pop, musical theatre, dance/electronic and basically everything combined into a musical masterpiece. With some wicked piano skills, this kid is going somewhere. He continues to release songs and I always get joy from listening to them. He will be up performing with Lady Gaga soon enough. Don't get that? Listen to the song above and you can see why!

5. Hailey Ward

I've grown closer to Hailey over the years and have really learned about her passion and incredible talent for writing songs that really can break your heart and put it back together. She just released a new album this past month (check out the link below) and this song is on it! So if you like it, there's more:

6. ZOË

'Cause she just put out a killer new track!

I met Zoe at Interlochen and got a nice year with her and got to hear her mega pop, electronic jam style and constantly felt like dancing with her music. You probably will too. Check it out below:

7. Madison Douglas

Madison has been a stunner since the beginning with her law and social standard defying tunes that are breaking barriers for everyone who feels suppressed, unloved, unwanted and anything in between. She constantly is changing the game for women in music and has a killer voice. Check out more of Madison's songs in youtube and enjoy.

8. EMM

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting EMM personally but know her through her killer vocals and can spot her songs out anywhere. I heard of her through my friend, Zoe, and was instantly hypnotized by the vocals and lyrics she was able to put across into her own music. Luckily, I was vocally trained by her father for a period of time and could definitely tell where that pure talent came from. She just released a brand new album ( I shared this song and version because it is my absolute fav!) but check out the new album below:

9. The Accidentals

Don't tell me you don't know who The Accidentals are and you haven't heard Michigan's new anthem yet? These guys are breaking barriers and happen to be some of my greatest musician friends. I had the honor of going to school with Katie (long hair) and Say (short hair) graduated a year before me but was always around, hanging and writing with Katie. I've gotten the chance to play with them a few times at shows and now, they are just too big, they are filling venues with sold out shows every month. This group is one you have to keep your eye on.

10. Kira Alejandro

Last but definitely not least (because I am playing piano in the back for this song) is one of my closest friend's from attending Interlochen, Kira Alejandro. With her heart aching tunes, you are sure to realize the pure mastery behind lyrics that are put into these songs.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?

For the average 20-something, life moves pretty fast. You’ve got classes, friends, relationships, jobs, family, and whatever else we overcommit ourselves with. I probably should have learned to say no to adding more to my schedule a long time ago, but instead here are 11 things that can be more helpful than coffee.

Blair Waldorf

Resting b***h face. Defined as a person, usually a girl, who naturally looks mean when her face is expressionless, without meaning to. Many of you suffer from this "condition."
