What is Trumpism?

The Experimental End of American Democracy

What is Trumpism?

Tomorrow for the millions who haven’t voted yet, this country will go to the polls and vote. What started 19 months ago with Ted Cruz standing in front of Liberty University announcing he would run for president, has led to this. Hundreds and thousands of hours of media coverage, this election will end within the next 24 hours. We have the two most hated candidates going head to head in one of the most important elections of our lifetime. A battle between democracy and white supremacy is what this election comes down to. What everyone has to realize is the story doesn’t end tomorrow. The angry illiterate, racist, sexist, white power enabled Trump voters will not go away. Trumpism is here to stay.

What we have seen in the past few weeks is a dramatic fluxuation in the polls. At one point last month Hillary had an 88% chance of winning this election while Trump sat roughly between 12-13%. While this was happening Trump created a frame work, when everyone had the assumption he was going to lose, he needed to shift the blame of the election, if he loses who is to blame. He began to push the narrative of a rigged election. He has gotten on countless stages, in front of thousands of people and have screamed about how the national election is rigged. When he loses everyone should go blame the polls, the states, that democracy simply has cheated and robbed millions of people of a fair election. This should frighten everyone.

Trump is continuing to tell his millions of supporters to shift their anger towards the fact this election will apparently be robbed from them. He even suggested last week we shouldn’t even have elections. What comes from this is a distrust in democracy, millions of people believing our electoral process is rigged. On November 9th, no matter who wins we will face severe challenges moving forward. Trump could physically go away after tomorrow, but his movement, his support, his ideology is going to spread like a wild fire.

American’s are stupid. The fact that a celebrity is currently on top of a national party ticket running for the highest office in this country speaks volumes alone. Now is the time that I have to plead, with everyone that I know, both Republican and Democrat. This election is not about electing the first female president anymore. This election is a test, and if we fail it the consequences and the sequences of events that will unfold after November 8th cannot even begin to be measured. When you go into those voting booths tomorrow, when you fill out your ballot box and you have the choice to vote third party, for Trump, or Hillary, I have to ask, do you value our constitution? Do you value our Bill of Rights? Do you value our rights in a democracy for freedom of speech, for freedom of religion, freedom of the press?

Black churches have been burned in the south with spray paint “Vote Trump.” Alt Right groups, the KKK, domestic terrorism and white supremacist racial hatred is becoming normalized, legitimized in this election, and that is Trumps America. We are going to move 50-100 years backwards as a country if 270+ electoral votes go to the wrong candidate.

Hillary Clinton is not perfect. She has deep flaws. As a progressive I’m against many of her policy decisions and beliefs, but at the end of the day I trust her. I trust her experience, her years of dedication to public service. You cannot measure that against someone like Trump. She is more than qualified to run this country, for 4, maybe even 8 years. When I say I’m with her, it’s not because I’m with Hillary, but I’m with democracy, I’m with our constitution, our countries values, our beliefs. I’m with now more than ever stopping the cancer that is Trumpism.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
